12/4: Ski Lodge, Repeal Day, Holiday Markets

Eat.

New brunches worth checking out:

  • BABA: Nosh on an unlimited buffet featuring Balkan bites like fresh salads, traditional spreads, a french toast bar, croissants, and handmade bureks in addition to made-to-order dishes such as crepes, egg dishes, and the BABA slider made with hand ground veal and beef. Saturday, Sunday 9:30AM - 3PM.

  • HalfSmoke: The Shaw fast-casual eatery debuts brunch with bottomless mimosas ($15) frozen cocktails topped with a popsicle ($10 each) and their signature Bloody Mary ($8) to pair with dishes like Butter Toasted IPA Brioche Bread, HalfSmoke Sausage Scramble, and a classic Steak-n-Cheese. Friday, Saturday 11AM-2PM; Sunday 11AM-11PM.

  • Siren: The seafood-centric restaurant's new brunch menu features a buffet filled with all things under the sea: oysters, shrimp cocktail, cured salmon, poached eggs with blue crab, and grilled swordfish among other offerings. $65 per person; Sunday, 10:30AM - 3PM

  • Service Bar: Sundays are for ski-lodging. Make your own s'mores at the U Street cocktail bar's latest playful jaunt. Themed "Ski Lodge Sunday's"guests can enjoy warm cocktails (including the Hot Buttered Cider and Gingerbread Toddy) all set against decor reminiscent of a wintertime resort. Sundays, 2 PM.

Drink.

Drink your way to Christmas with a Cocktail Advent Calendar: Adult-ing just got so much more fun. Hank's Cocktail Bar in Petworth will be counting down the days with festive cocktails unveiled each day from December 1 - 24. If you're looking to celebrate with a specific spirit in mind check out these other countdowns: b DC's 13 Days of Bourbon, Dubliner's Whiskey Advent Calendar, MXDC's 25 days of Tequila or Free State's Sparkling Advent Calendar.

In other news, we think December 5 should be a national holiday. Here's where to a raise a glass to Repeal Day aka the passing of the 21st Amendment aka the end of Prohibition (insert Hands in the Air emoji).

The district's favorite holiday pop-up bar is back in action; head to Miracle on 7th Street for festive cocktails galore. Highlights include You Go Glen Coco (Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey, Hot Chocolate Milk, Salt, Scandinavian Whipped Cream) and the I Sleigh, All Day (Calvados, Apple Cola, Semi-dry Cider, Sparkling water). There are also plenty of photo opps available in the way of decor: a giant Gingerbread House, a massive sleigh, and a room decked out in Chinese takeout boxes and to name a few. Open through December 31st.

DC.

Now that Thanksgiving is over, holiday markets reign supreme in DC and there is no shortage of local pop-ups to get those presents and stocking stuffers:

Tour the historic Heurich House decked in holiday decor whilst perusing gift-ables at the mansion's Christkindlmrkt (mini mrkts through Dec. 22), pop by the ever-popular Downtown Holiday Market (through Dec. 23), travel the world and shop for gifts with a global flair at the 6th Annual Winternational Embassy Showcase (Dec. 6), head to Wunder Garten for the NoMa BID's Winterfest featuring a makers holiday market (through Dec. 17), or stop into the new-ish Made in DC shop for locally sourced gifts crafted right here in DC.
