Mardi Gras in DC
Get your beads ready - Fat Tuesday is baaaack! If you’re anything like me and plan to take advantage of the holiday’s name to the fullest, check out these Mardi Gras celebrations and specials where you can eat and drink to your heart’s content.
Available just for Mardi Gras, snag the special King Cake Doughnut: a vanilla-glazed yeast doughnut decorated with green, purple and gold sugar with a white fleur de lis on top.
The Arlington bakery will be hosting a Fat Tuesday party complete with $5 specialty dishes from Chef David Guas. Feast on Red Beans & Rice, Jambalaya, and Beignets. Pair them with $5 cocktails and Abita Beers. 6-10PM.
On Fat Tuesday, take part in a special three-course dinner collaboration with local distillery, Republic Restoratives. The dinner will feature Bayou-inspired favorites including Crispy Frog Legs, Etouffee and Beignets all paired with a specialty cocktail. Tickets are $35.
The Penn Quarter location is getting its Fat Tuesday on with Abita brews and giveaways and a raffle for Caps tickets. Enjoy $10 Hurricanes and $8 slices of King Cake throughout the night.
Kicking off on the Monday before Fat Tuesday and running through March 10, the Ivy City winery will serve a special Andouille sausage and crawfish etouffee and will also be offering a festive Hurricane to pair with.
The Navy Yard restaurant is hosting a Mardi Gras party complete with a bottomless New Orleans buffet with southern favorites like Shrimp and Chicken Jambalaya, Cajun Fried Chicken, Bacon Braised Collard Greens and more. Tickets are $30 and include one beer and access to all-you-can-eat buffet.
They don’t call it Fat Tuesday for nothing…pop over to the Cajun crawfish joint for drink specials ($6 Hurricanes and BOGO beer) and enter their free crawfish-eating contest where you could win a giftcard to eat more crawfish at Hot N Juicy.
The all-you-can-eat-and-drink affair will feature live music and over 20 of DC’s top chefs offering New Orleans-inspired bites (participating restaurants include: ChiKo, Bayou Bakery, Colada Shop, Rappahannock Oyster Bar, The Salt Line, Poca Madre and more). Pair them with celebratory cocktails and libations from local mixologists and bars including Archipelago, Bourbon Steak, and Buffalo & Bergen. Proceeds from the event benefit DC Central Kitchen. Tickets are $55 and can be purchased here.
Celebrate Carnivale at downtown Italian restaurant Bibiania Osteria-Enoteca. Through Fat Tuesday, they’ll be celebrating Carnevale di Venezia (an Italian festival traditionally celebrated up until Ash Wednesday) with a special prix fixe four course menu with dishes like Scallop Croquette, Pork Ragout, Roasted Beef Tenderloin and Classic Carnival Doughnuts.
