Shop Local Restaurants Turned Markets

Updated: Mar 29

Out of necessity, we've seen restaurants dynamically shift their business operations to adapt to the changes COVID-19 has dealt the industry this past week. Turning dining rooms into storefronts, check out these restaurants temporarily offering meals, grocery essentials and pantry items - consider shopping here if you're local to these spots:

The Alibi:

The British American pub on Capitol Hill offers raw and prepared meal kits, grocery essentials and alcoholic beverages. Shoppers can order for next-day pick up via phone (202.347.2237) Monday - Saturday from 10am-6pm - orders of $25 and over qualify for a free roll of TP. The meals are made to serve 4 - raw meals include Backyard BBQ, Whole Chicken Dinner, Crab Cakes + Sides and more and come with detailed cooking instructions. Prepared meals include reheating instructions for items like Chicken Parmesan, Chicken Pot Pie and Corned Beef. Add a la carte sides and shop from Pantry Items and essentials like butter, eggs, bacon, freshly baked bread and other proteins. Full menu available here.

Coconut Club

Chef Adam Greenberg's tropical oasis transforms into Coconut Club Market every Wednesday-Friday from 3-7pm (with social distancing practices in place). Shop for essentials sold at cost including bread, pasta, fruit, rice and booze. Additionally, patrons can place advance orders for pick up or local delivery from the restaurant's island-inspired menu.

Emilie's:

In addition to offering a special Vietnamese take-out menu (which also includes Hot Lola's Fried Chicken Sandwich) while full restaurant operations are shut down, Chef Kevin Tien's Capitol Hill neighborhood spot will now be selling dips, ferments and fresh-baked breads. Shoppers can also purchase wine bottles discounted by 40%.

Mola:

The Spanish tapas restaurant in Mount Pleasant recently launched a market stocked with fresh baguettes and breads from Bread Furst, prepared foods and meals, baked goods, wine and other pantry staples. Guests can order from the market online or by calling the restaurant at 202.849.3247. The Market is open Tuesday and Sunday from 2pm-6pm and Wednesday - Saturday from 2pm-8pm.

Napoli Pasta Bar:

In addition to offering its entire Neapolitan menu for takeout and delivery, the Columbia Heights restaurant has also added batch cocktails, liters of limoncello and discounted wine (30% off their selection) in addition to opening a meat market in partnership with Huntsman Specialty Game. Score high quality meats including lamb, veal, beef, chicken and more by selecting your protein options and ordering directly through Napoli - open Tuesday - Sunday from 4pm-9pm.

Neighborhood Restaurant Group:

The group behind restaurants including Birch & Barley, The Partisan, Vermilion, Iron Gate, Blue Jacket recently launched a new initiative, Neighborhood Provisions. Combining talents and efforts from chefs, managers and beverage specialists spanning the restaurant group, shop a variety of prepared foods, ready-to-cook meals, pantry items to stock up on, in addition to wine and beer that will be delivered. Items range from sliced bacon and other butchery items (Red Apron), sweets and cold brew concentrate (Buzz Bakeshop), as well as beer from Blue Jacket. Restaurant industry members will receive 10% off on purchases.
