This Week: Caribbean Smokehouse, Mardi Gras, After Hours Museum-ing
Check out the recently revamped Spark at 12 (formerly Old Engine 12) for Caribbean-smokehouse fare from Executive Chef Peter Prime - dishes include whole fried snapper, jerk wings served with house made mango mustard, guava rum grilled oxtails (perhaps my new favorite dish), cumin spiced and smoked pork belly and many other items that will make you drool upon reading the menu. If you can't decide what to order, just get one of everything like I did (photo above as proof). Now open for weekend brunch in addition to regular service.
Fat Tuesday is here - get into the Mardi Gras spirit with King Cake, Cajun-inspired dinners, and of course, massive Mardi Gras parties. Check out my DrinkDC piece on where to celebrate the over-the-top holiday.
Contrary to popular belief, rosé isn't reserved for summertime. Get your tickets to Drink the District's 50 Shades Of Rosé hosted at the French Embassy and sip on French rosés and wines paired with oysters and chocolate - perfect for a belated Valentine's Day celebration. Feb. 16; 6 -9 PM.
Nat Geo Nights - Themed Bird Nerds, the February rendition of the monthly series will feature hands on activities, a happy hour, and talks with National Geographic Explorers Anusha Shankar, Ben Mirin, Bertie Gregory, Çağan Hakkı Şekercioğlu and Washington Wachira. Feb. 15; 5:30 - 8PM.
Experience Dumbarton House after hours at Dumbarton at Dusk - tour the museum after hours while enjoying a cash bar, food, music, and pop-up history activities. This month's event will focus on the topic of slavery in Georgetown - speak with an oral historian and watch as local artist Lionel Daniels completes a living painting performance detailing hist story. Feb. 15; 5:30 - 8PM.
