This Week: Chilled Summer Menu, Short Fridays, All Star Game
Another 90+ degree week means I'll be living at downtown Italian restaurant, Bibiana, where they recently rolled out a Chilled Summer Menu perfect for the dog days of July and August. The special a la carte items include a refreshing Watermelon Gazpacho with tuna crudo, burrata and caper dust; a delightful Shrimp Carpaccio with orange-tomato dressing, mango chutney, garlic chips and black summer truffles; House-made Tagliolini with compressed caviar, vodka and creme fraiche sauce; and a Butter Poached Turbot with white asparagus, grapefruit gelee and crispy zucchini blossoms. End on a sweet note with the Buttermilk & Creme Fraiche Panna Cotta with strawberry consomme. The chilled items are available during lunch and dinner service through August (with the exception of the Turbot).
Kick off the week with seafood at Legal Seafood’s C-Food Mondays where Claws, Clams, Corn, Coleslaw and Chowder are the name of the game. Through August 27, indulge in a cup of New England clam chowder, 1-1.25lb lobster, steamers, corn on the cob and coleslaw for $29.95.
Picnic + Pedal courtesy of the Rosewood’s newest bicycle collection - hotel guests are invited to take a spin using the new wheels this summer while snagging one of three picnic basket combinations to go along for the ride. Each basket features gourmet sandwiches, beverages and sides; the perfect lunch to take while enjoying rides along the scenic waterfront.
Summertime drinking calls for rooftops, patios, colorful drinks and Instagram-able backdrops - check out my latest Drink DC piece highlighting the best bars for summertime drinking.
For some, the summer months bring shorter Friday hours - those lucky enough to get out of the office early can kickstart their weekends at The Capital Burger’s Short Fridays. Each week, enjoy a complimentary luxury cocktail, beer of wine experience - this week’s event is themed Founding Father - meet Port City Brewing’s founder while sipping on the Integral IPA. Every Friday through Aug. 31; 3:30-5:30pm.
The All Star Game is in town and restaurants and bars are offering up specials just in time for the big game on Tuesday:
Through Tuesday, dig into a Ballpark special with $10 hot dog paired with a Narragansett.
Catch the game at the subterranean bar where extra TVs will be brought in on Tuesday - sip on cocktails while enjoying traditional baseball snacks: crackerjacks and popcorn.
All week long at the Navy Yard location, score any of the Modern Classics for just $5. Dishes include the Rice Plate (chicken kabob, roasted red pepper sauce, hummus, tomato and cucumber, and fresh veggies), the Classic (chicken roti, green s’hug and garlic sauce, hummus, tomato and cucumber, and red cabbage slaw) and the Mediterranean Chopped Salad (chicken roti, tomato and cucumber, couscous, feta, olives, roti vinaigrette and pita crunchies).
In addition to hosting weekend festivities, pop by to catch Barstool Radio broadcasting live starting with their pregame show at 2pm on Monday.
The Navy Yard raw bar and restaurant will open at 11am and feature an outdoor grill with offerings including DC half smokes; grilled Crazy Lobster with blistered corn, spicy mayo, queso fresco and cilantro; and grilled oysters with bourbon BBQ butter and scallions.
The Belgian brasserie will offer $5 specials on beers that have a star in their name or logo. Through July 17, enjoy discounted Stella Artois, BOM Full Moon, Right Proper Astral Weeks, Star Hill Northern lights, and 3 Stars Ghost.
A nod to DC’s former professional MLB team, the downtown restaurant will offer a specialty cocktail: The Senators is made with Jefferson Bourbon, Dolin Blanc Vermouth, Carpano Antica, Campari and Benedictine.
At the Four Seasons’ steakhouse enjoy all-American menu specials like the Bourbon Pecan Caramel Ice Cream Sundae served in a mini baseball helmet, the American League Burger (American Wagyu beef, lettuce, tomato, onion, American cheese), the National Burger (American Wagyu beef, lettuce, tomato, onion, Cabot Clothbound cheddar and secret sauce) and complimentary boxes of Cracker Jacks.
