This Week: Embassy Chef Challenge, Royal Wedding PUB, MarketSW


On a tight lunch schedule? Dine on Balkan-inspired dishes at Ambar’s recently debuted Express Lunch Menu. Offered at both the DC and Clarendon locations Monday - Friday from 11AM - 2:30PM, enjoy an all-you-can-eat spread of Soups and Salads, Vegetables, Flatbreads, Sliders, Baked Pies, Meat & Poultry, Slow-cooked Food, Sausages and Seafood. The menu must be ordered by the entire table and makes for a great office or group dining option.

Check out new menu items at the Capitol Riverfront’s seafood house, The Salt Line. New additions from Chef Kyle Bailey include Grilled Asparagus with pickled oyster gribiche, Soy Garlic Green Beans with toasted sesame seed, Crispy Farm Egg with frisee and ruby streak, fingerlings, bacon crumbs, and grainy mustard vinaigrette, and Crispy Skin Rockfish with mussels, saffron-tomato broth, fennel, artichokes, roasted peppers and house bread.

Travel the world and experience bites and sips from 29 embassies at Events DC’s 10th Annual Embassy Chef Challenge. This year’s event will feature nine different awards honoring chefs for their authentic dishes representing countries from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Caribbean and Europe. While you taste your way through the evening, enjoy cultural and musical performances. Tickets start at $90.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of months, you know the Royal Wedding is happening this weekend. Celebrate by heading to Drink Company’s Royal Wedding pop-up bar featuring themed cocktails including the Markle Sparkle with Aperol, Rose Cider, Sparkling Water and Glitter; God Save the Queen made with Beefeater Gin, Dry Vermouth, Crown; and a wedding cake shot among other libations. This pop-up is a short one, only running through May 20.

Brookland's Finest is teaming up with Moorekeno's Ice Cream to bring boozy milkshakes to the neighborhood Friday, May 18 from 5 - 10PM and Saturday, May 19 from 3 - 10PM. The spiked shakes are priced at $12 with flavors including Green Apple Sorbet with Altos Tequila and Ginger Beer, Salted Caramel Ice Cream with Jameson Irish Whiskey, and Coconut Pineapple Ice Cream with Cotton and Reed Spiced Rum.


Broadway musical Waitress opens this week at the National Theatre; catch the show featuring Sara Bareilles’ music now through June 3.

Shop local arts, crafts, and handmade goods at MarketSW while enjoying the sounds of live music from local bands and food options from favorites like DC Crab Cake n Co. and DMV Empanadas. May 18; 4 - 8 PM.
