This Week: Opening of O-Ku, Spritz Cocktails, Where to Watch the World Cup

Downtown restaurant and rum bar, Cuba Libre, will host a special rum dinner featuring Venezuelan distiller, Destilerias Unidas’ Diplomático Rum. Guests can expect the night to kickoff with a cocktail hour filled with light bites and a Hemingway Daiquiri, with a four course dinner to follow. The menu will feature Cuban seafood dishes including ceviche, charred octopus, and pan-seared salmon paired with carefully selected Diplomático rums. June 19, 6:30 PM. Tickets are $85 and can be purchased here.

Looking for new power lunch options? RARE Steakhouse will now offer a prix fixe lunch menu - perfect for an express lunch during the busy workday. Choose from a first course (options include broccoli & cheese soup; chef’s country pâté; or endive, arugula & frisee salad) an entree (such as Skuna Bay salmon; steak frites, spiced Long Island duck) and finish off with a sweet treat (bittersweet chocolate pot de creme; angel food cake; summer sorbet). The prix fixe option is available for $35 on the second-floor of the restaurant from 11:30AM-2:30PM from Monday through Friday.

Check out DC’s newest contemporary Japanese restaurant, O-Ku, on opening night this Friday, June 22. Executive Chef Bryan Emperor puts his spin on Japanese dishes like nigiri, sushi and sashimi, and wood-fired dishes at the two-story Union Market destination, complete with roof deck views. Pair your sushi with Japanese whiskey and signature cocktails.

Spritz cocktails reign supreme this summer at downtown French bistro, Opaline. Through August, cool down from the muggy DC weather and indulge in sparkling cocktails like the Lillet Spritz made with Lillet Rose, Blueberry Essence, Perrier, and Lemon Zest; and the Apricot Spritz with Giffard Apricot Liqueur, Aperol, Perrier and Orange Zest. New weekly Spritzers will be added to the lineup, joining the two permanent options listed above.

DC’s first distillery+kitchen+bar, District Distilling Co., is unveiling the newest addition to its lineup of rums: Buzzard Point Barrel-Aged Rum. Made using Panela, expect the rum to have fruity and grassy notes. Snag a 750ml bottle at District Distilling’s retail shop or enjoy it in a cocktail and order the Pogo Pogo made with lime juice, green chartreuse, Creme de Cacao, pineapple juice, and Ghost White IPA in addition to Buzzard Point Barrel-Aged Rum.

On June 19, join Jessica Koslow (chef and owner of LA’s Sqirl), Sweetgreen and Pineapple Collaborative for a breakfast event, Everything I want to Eat. Hear from Koslow on how she built her popular brand and enjoy a one-day only Sqirl x Sweetgreen exclusive breakfast bowl: kale, cucumber + quinoa tossed with our pesto dressing, topped with an avocado, steelhead and an egg. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased here.
